Edwin Janssen is a Lecturer in Art & Media. Previous posts include Chairman of the Visual Arts Award Panels at the Foundation for Visual Art, Design and Architecture, Amsterdam, the Netherlands. He was a lecturer and programme leader at the Academy of Art and Design, Arnhem, the Netherlands. Edwin began his collaboration with Tracy Mackenna after meeting as participants in Manifesta 1. Their practice is a creative and discursive site central to which are exhibition projects that integrate research, production, presentation, exchange and education. Research focuses on issues of life and death, cultural identity and visual publishing. Work is shown internationally with organisations and institutions that include: The Highland Hospice, Scotland; Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst, Zürich; Scottish National Portrait Gallery, Edinburgh; Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Contemporary Art; Nederlands Fotomuseum, Rotterdam. Collaborative working within and beyond the academic sector is central to their collaborative practice.
Individual research interests include curatorial practice, museum culture and image theory. Prior to his collaboration with Tracy he participated in exhibitions in galleries and museums including Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Buenos Aires, Argentina; Museum Boijmans van Beuningen, Rotterdam, the Netherlands; Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven, the Netherlands; Museum Fridericianum, Kassel, Germany and Wiener Secession, Vienna, Austria.
