Dugald Williamson teaches, researches and publishes widely in the areas of media, communications and cultural studies. His doctoral thesis was on film theory and involved research in France and Australia. He lectured from 1978 to 2000 in Forms of Communication, Culture and Politics, and Screen Studies, at Griffith University, Brisbane. In 2001, he joined the School of English, Communication and Theatre at the University of New England, Australia in 2001 to coordinate the Bachelor of Communication Studies. He has also been a Head of School at UNE for almost four years, until the end of 2006. His disciplinary interests are in media studies (especially documentary), professional writing, rhetoric, and the interrelations of communication practices, policy, law, civics and formations of identity.
