Dr. Lane is Full Professor at the Telfer School of Management of the University of Ottawa since 1995. Professor Lane’s research interests include decision-making processes, simulation modelling and control of dynamic systems, especially in the area of natural resources, adaptation to climate change, commercial fisheries, oceans, and aquaculture management. Recipient of numerous research grants including: NSERC Individual Operating and Discovery Grants (since 1986), Co-Director (Canada) of the C-Change International Community-University Research Alliance (ICURA) IDRC-SSHRC (2009-2015), Network Investigator and Board member of the Canadian Capture Fisheries Research Network (2009-2015), Network Centre of Excellence on Aquaculture, AquaNet (2004-2005), Principal Investigator and Chair of the Oceans Management Research Network (OMRN) (since 2005), Director of the Canadian Fisheries Oceans and Aquaculture Management (C-FOAM) Research Group, and Member of the Board of IOI-Canada. Lane’s professional activities have included Vice-Dean and Associate Dean (Research) (1997-1999), Director of the Master's Programme in Systems Science (1990-1997), and Coordinator of the Management Section of the Telfer School of Management (2001-2004), and the Business Analytics/Information Systems Section (2013 to present). From 1998 to 2003 he was appointed by the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans to the Fisheries Resource Conservation Council (FRCC).
