C. Holly Denning is an Academic Staff Instructor in Sociology, Race and Ethnic Studies, Environmental and Restorative Justice at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Doctoral research at Boston College was in the program for Social Justice. Multicultural and interdisciplinary interests characterize scholarly work and teaching. Spiritual agency as a dynamic concept illuminates work in restorative, community and environmental justice approaches analyzing disasters. Research on ongoing impacts of Hurricane Katrina and the Gulf oil disaster led to study of water crises and cultural impacts closer to home. Eventually, an interconnected model outlining challenges and solutions from the Great Lakes to the Gulf of Mexico emerged. Present focus is exploring the food/water nexus, alternative agriculture, and local food systems as long term solutions to climate change.
