I am a psychotherapist in private practice for ten years specializing in infants, children, adolescents, and families. I am a licensed clinical social worker; a Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor; and I have a 100-hour training in Infant Mental Health. I am also a Florida Qualified Supervisor for MSW students seeking licensure. My prior background is in agency work with multi-cultural populations in domestic violence and hospice. I serve as a Court Involved Therapist frequently, working with abused children and children of high-conflict divorce. I contract with Head Start to provide mental health assessments for a Pre-K population. I attended Mount Holyoke College, 1980, and received my MSW from Barry University in 1993. I currently attend a PhD program in Social Work at Barry University in Miami, FL, where my research interest is in grandparents who are alienated from their grandchildren. I am a founding board member of Alienated Grandparents Anonymous (AGA), a non-profit organization that has experienced rapid "grass roots" growth in three years. I am honored to submit this proposal to Aging & Society, because I am deeply moved by the suffering of what appears to be a fast-growing segment of grandparents who are cut-off from primary kin relationships with their grandchildren. Thank you very much for your consideration of my proposal.
