Barbara is a graduate of Smith College and the University of Michigan Law School where she was Contributing Editor of the Michigan Law Review. She has combined a career in corporate law practice and international development. As a corporate lawyer in the Hong Kong offices of Allen & Overy LLP (2006-2008) and Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP (2008-2010), she focused on international financing and business transactions. She has represented both issuers and investment banks on multi-million and multi-billion dollar debt and equity capital raisings in emerging market economies including Sri Lanka, India, Korea, the Philippines, Singapore and Malaysia. She also has international development experience in South Africa (South African Human Rights Commission), Uganda (Fellowship for Reconciliation), Burma (Growing Together Myanmar) and Bangladesh (Asian University for Women). Barbara currently serves as the president of a non-profit organization that is establishing a global women's leadership university in Asia.
