Andrew Pettit is a Ph.D. student in ethnomusicology at the University of California, Los Angeles. He is currently writing his dissertation titled “Passing Traditions: Lullabies and Social Change in Urban India” the research for which was funded, in part, by a Fulbright-Nehru student research fellowship. His research interests include Hindustani classical music, music and the mind, the changing nature of lullabies and other ritualized, child-directed songs in India, and devotional music genres in the United States. Andrew performs Hindustani classical music on the sitar, which he has studied for the past 14 years, and is a former editor and assistant editor of the journal Pacific Review of Ethnomusicology / Ethnomusicology Review.
