Andrea Benze was born in Bonn, Germany. Since 1994 she lives in Berlin. She studied Architecture at the Technical University Darmstadt and the Bartlett School of Architecture and Planning, University College London, UK. After her studies she worked in several architectural practices in London and Berlin (1993 – 1998). In 2010 she completed her PhD with honours at the University of Kassel. In 2012, her book „Everyday Space in the city region. An atlas of experimental cartography“, which was based on her thesis, was published by Reimar. It was shortlisted fort he DAM book award and awarded a price for best book design in 2013. Andrea Benze teaches and researches in various universities since 1998. She is currently Visiting Professor in the Faculty of Urban and Regional Planning at the Technical University of Berlin. In 2002 Andrea Benze and Anuschka Kutz founded OFFSEA (office for socially engaged architecture), with offices in London and Berlin. OFFSEA works on projects that fuse research and practice, with work located in the field of architecture, urbanism and art, with a focus on social engagement and participatory projects. Their projects won several awards and have been exhibited, funded and published widely.
