A former employee of British Gas and the Ministry of Defence his industrial experience includes implementing ISO 9000 (1994) in both manufacturing and service organisations. He was a BSI qualified ISO 9000 (1994) Lead Auditor and a qualified LRQA Internal QMS Auditor (2004). He started lecturing at Bell College of Technology in 1993 before joining Liverpool John Moores University in 2000. He was an External Examiner for the BSc (Hons) Quality Management and Technology programme at Paisley University from 2000 to 2005 and Diploma in Management Studies (DMS) programmes at Blackburn College from 2002 to 2006 and is currently external examiner for Blackpool and Fylde College’s DMS programme as well as their Foundation Degree in Management. He was recently appointed external examiner for Operations and Quality Management Modules on a range of MSc programmes at the University of Salford.
To-date he has examined 9 PhD candidates from LJMU, UMIST and the University of Salford and is currently Director of Studies for 3 MPhil/PhD students.
His recent research interests include the EFQM Excellence Model, ISO 9000 implementation, Mystery Shopping, Quality Management in Professional Service Firms, Service quality and the tourist experience, Lean and Six Sigma in Services and Customer Satisfaction.
Alex is also a Fellow of the Chartered Quality Institute; Senior Member of American Society for Quality and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy
