The Louvre Abu Dhabi: French Cultural Imperialism, Commodification, and Exportation

Abstract

This paper examines the NEW museum liaising multiculturalism, popular culture, international diplomacy, etc. It draws on empirical research, scholarly articles, current media (digital, print and broadcast). An original paper, “The Louvre Abu Dhabi: French Cultural, Imperialism, Commodification and Exportation) was chosen to be presented at the 2010 “Europe on the Move” conference held in the UK. I use that paper as a base with an addendum that updates where the process is now that the museum has been open for a decade, the reception, and additional strategies. For example, French DJ David Guetta, an EDM celebrity, broadcast from the Louvre Abu Dhabi on New Years Eve 2020.
