Multi-layered Accessible Interpretation via Mobile

Abstract

In 2021, the Van Abbemuseum in the Netherlands wanted to create a layered museum visit in which they could give the public the option to research and dive deeper into the multiple perspectives without overwhelming them. Working in collaboration with Smartify, we developed a mobile guide that is fully accessible and developed five journeys through the museum such as ‘Bodily Encounters’ and the ‘Office of Queer Affairs’. In this presentation Smartify CoFounder Anna Lowe will explain our approach to designing accessible mobile guides and key take-aways for organisations looking bring new approaches to interpretation.
