Soekarno Online Museum: Painting Collections Series

Abstract

During his life, President Soekarno was one of the greatest painting collectors in the world. After he died, his painting book of his collections became a rare book. Because of its location inside the Five of Presidential Palaces of Indonesia, the public can’t appreciate it. This study looks to create a research-based approach and a creative solution to how the public can access his collection. According to ICOM spirit related to museum, based on an architectural study and historical archives was created Soekarno’s Virtual Museum as an architectonic design of museum building in digitally that draws on a video characteristics of a museum, in order to complement, enhance, or augment the museum through an imaginary building. A Virtual museum of Soekarno’s painting collection based on five series of his book was created based on a postmodern architecture. The imaginary museum building was located in an imaginary beach site. The imaginary building was created into a video of imaginary museum building by learned of his ideas behind of the ‘mercusuar of architecture project’. Results of this study lead to a online museum with content of his painting collections. It is the first in a series of his online museum that can watched by everybody anywhere.
