Enhancing the Museum Experience with Online Reality, Augmented Reality, and 360 Video

Abstract

Online Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and 360 Video are changing our relationship to space and place in dramatic ways. This showcase looks at the difference between these technologies and specifically looks at the opportunities these technologies present for collaborations between museums and universities. We consider the hardware and software involved in creating these experiences including cameras, workflow, and multiple options for presentation including simple options using a mobile device and the latest standalone headsets. By the end of this session, new users will have a good understanding of the VR, AR, and 360 landscape and advanced users will have deeper understanding of the latest innovations.
