The Small Museum between Memory and Cosmopolitism in Europe

Abstract

This research emphasizes the small museum in the new era of cosmopolitism, cultural politics, climate change, and political changes in the twenty-first century from an anthropological perspective. The theory that we would like to demonstrate is that no matter what the conditions are, culture has the power -through museums (small museums) - to make a statement and send a message from an economic, political, sociological, and anthropological point of view. We consider that the museum, the main instrument for the development of culture and memory, is one of the most important tools that cultural actors have. The study of small museums shows us that the ones from different countries in Europe can and will bring closer the community and, at the same time, the community with the Others in the new era. At present, in a society characterized through cosmopolitanism and consumerism, the museum finds itself in a place in which it has to constantly prove that it can be local and global at the same time. In general, they are cultural institutes that reflect on a local problem like art, history, geography, anthropology etc., but at the same time they are global problems and objects of study. The tool of memory is the most important one today for the past not to be forgotten. The question posed in this paper aims to question the tools that we have for memory in local Europe. One of these tools is represented by the small museum.
