Abstract
Ancient manuscripts in Indonesia are civilisation heritage serving as empirical evidence to capture development of knowledge in the past. Ancient manuscripts allow us to learn ideas of ancestors to help manage social order in societies in the future, but they have not received any significant attention from the societies especially due to their limited awareness of history. Therefore, local people of Indonesia look as if they emerged as strangers to their own national identity amidst the globalisation of knowledge that is getting more biased. Several Indonesian ancient manuscripts are kept in another country as a result of colonialism. However, local knowledge has served as the most valuable heritage of eternity which should be protected, conserved, and widely disseminated to both Indonesian society and the world. This study explores some solutions attempted through government policy initiatives or scholars, which have not been performed optimally. The development of technology is utilised to raise people’s awareness through digitalisation of ancient manuscripts with the help of edutainment and culturepreneurship approach, while people power movement as participatory communication agent functions as bottom-up effort which effectively builds literacy and glocalisation that leads to cross connection memory of the world. Thus, it is expected that the digital world will connect all stakeholders by making online media ‘local knowledge bank’. When this pilot project is developed in Indonesia, followed by other countries with their own knowledge banks, the integration into the world knowledge bank of each country will be more feasible.
