Mediation as a Cultural Construction to Elaborate Content of Experience and Memory for a Living Generation in a Country in Conflict: The Mediation Approach at the Casa de la Memoria Museum

Abstract

A museum of memory has the challenge of opening its doors to make the stories of some a reference and starting point of invention of a story for everyone, as an approach to the plurality of truths regarding the events that marked the history of a country in conflict. This means that mediation appears as a device and strategy of the educational project from the beginning, in the construction of the museographic and educational contents, articulating the experience-action-transformation axis necessary to open the way that makes hope possible, and at the same time generate a conversation from three edges: the visitor, the content and the mediator. This paper shows the mediation strategy of the Casa de la Memoria Museum of Medellin, which through different methodologies (the constellation, Mirror Methodology, Indicium Method) generates a conversation as a means for the encounter and construction of the history of the moment we are living, activating the use of living memory and in the present as creative power beyond imagination, linking effort, reorganization, understanding and discernment, structuring of a future from the experience: collective memory is a cultural construction to elaborate content of experience and memory for a living generation.
