Historical and Literary Images on Brazilian Amazon: Alternative Sources to Understanding

Abstract

The Brazilian Amazon is often represented like an exotic place in literature, official history, cinema and the arts in general. However, there is total ignorance about human experience in the region. This colloquium shared between historians and literary critics aims to demystify these false images. To this end we explore alternative sources in the fields of linguistics, archaeology and geography to counter these crystallized images in official history and mass literature.
