The Politics of Reconstructing the Image of Self: Visualizing 21 Days Self-Quarantine Challenge in Hotel

Abstract

Due to the unpredictable threat of COVID-19, many cities and countries implement the mandatory policy of self quarantine in hotel from 14 to 21 days when arrival. This presentation is about my personal 21 self-quarantine in Hong Kong hotel referencing and comparing with other people who experience the similar scenario. Self-quarantine is really valuable time for busy modern people reflecting varied planning, life styles, habit, interest, value, food preference for different people around the globe. And it is a time for how individual visualize the reconstruction of himself or herself alone. And let people reflex and meditate the human-nature relationship between the pandemic and people, about the intimate family relationship and value. Most people would share their unique experience on Youtube and facebook by text, video and photos day by day, etc. From the analysis, we can know the deepest part of ourselves through the re-visualizing the image of ourselves and self-quarantine living through social media sharing, comments, responding and sharing again.
