Abstract
Before an architect can conceive of any design it is important to have a vision of an appropriate comprehensive image of the environment to be. The inherent complexity of such synthesizing is no doubt daunting. In this paper I would like to suggest somewhat unconventional modes of developing and indeed accessing, such imagery. In a time where ocularcentrism and intellectualization largely dominates architectural thinking, I would like to encourage modes of design that instead prioritise human experience. Experience, not in our embodied encounters with the material aspects of the lifeworld, and also not in terms of semiotics, but rather experience that occurs through mental images, through memory, dreams and imagination. In this paper I hope to show how the interpretation of such images allows us to turn them into visual forms and atmospheres.
