The Importance of Digital Media in Health Tourism

Abstract

By January 2023, the ubiquity of mobile phones had profoundly transformed the global scene, with more than 5 billion people globally using them (We Are Social, 2024). Digital platforms’ accessibility and connectedness have globalized access to healthcare information and services. Patients now have unparalleled access to information on various health tourism destinations, medical procedures, and healthcare providers, allowing them to make more educated decisions about their medical trips. The primary goal of this research is to perform a literature review on the various uses of digital media in the context of health tourism. Drawing on twenty publications published during the previous five years, this study seeks to investigate the changing landscape of digital media use in the field of health tourism. The findings of the literature research highlight the critical role of digital media in promoting information dissemination in the health tourism sector. The vast majority of individuals learned about health tourism from online sources, including search engines and specialist healthcare websites to get information related to their medical requirements. As a result, there is an urgent need for focused audience analysis to better understand the digital habits and preferences of health tourism patients. In conclusion, digital media and health tourism demonstrates technology’s transformational potential for altering global healthcare practices. As we negotiate this digital frontier, it is critical to perform further research and analysis to fully realize the benefits of digital media in improving the accessibility, transparency, and efficacy of health tourism services.
