Abstract
This is an observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study using surveys. A questionnaire was designed to explore variables related to lifestyle. Final sample consisted of 1822 valid surveys. 20.75% were male and 79.25% were female, 57.74% had an age between 18 and 30 years while 42.26% had an age between 31 and 45 years, 32.33% of the sample had basic education while 67.67% had higher education, 41.99% had low income while 46.10% had medium-high income, 11.91% don’t know. The relative frequency of the variables of feelings about body image and food has been calculated with respect to the socio-demographic variables Sex, Age, Level of Studies, Level of Income and Residence. Statistically significant differences were detected for the variables living alone or accompanied, living at home or away from home and level of education, while income level, age or gender did not seem to have much influence on the relationship with food of the respondents. A Principal Component Analysis (PCA) was also carried out and two principal components were chosen to explain 30.4% of the variability of the data. PCA analysis shows that people who are less concerned about their body shape and have a healthier relationship with food are less sedentary. Also, people with a higher quality and quantity of sleep and a feeling of waking up feeling rested tend to smoke, get drunk and drink less frequently. Finally, no correlation was found between the quality and hours of sleep and waking up tired with the variables of feelings and physical appearance.
