Anxiety in Track and Field Athletes: A Narrative Review

Abstract

Track and Field athletes have a high chance of anxiety occurring. Anxiety has cognitive and somatic components that make up multiple symptoms. Anxiety’s thoughts and feelings can be temporary, permanent, trigger, or situation-specific. With athletes, anxiety usually occurs when their skills are being evaluated and analyzed. The research reviewswhat track and field athletes experience when anxiety occurs and what other components cause this to happen. Early detection and mental health treatment are critical when an athlete struggles with anxiety or another mental health disorder.
