Whispers to Voices

Abstract

The study aimed to relieve sexual harassment experiences of students at the Higher Education Institutions in the province of Bulacan, Philippines. The findings largely reflect that sexual harassment in school is a pressing issue that needed serious attention because of its adverse effects on student victims which were mostly female. There are more male educators who commit sexual harassment than female. Catcalling is the most common form. Victims respond to the incidence differently but the normalization of sexual harassment was alarmingly proven to be the primary reason for unreported cases. Moreover, victims are so reluctant to report harassment due to fear, ignorance of school policies and they do not want to be seen as difficult or be blamed and misjudged. Suggestions and recommendations for addressing and handling cases of sexual harassment, including ways of preventing it from happening, are highlighted in the study.
