Designing and Transforming Postpartum Care into a Rejuvenating Resort Retreat for Women's Health and Wellbeing: Promoting Collaborative Work Between the Hotel/Resort Industry and the Healthcare Industry View Digital Media

Paper Presentation in a Themed Session
Ingrid Lin

The purpose of the present research is to design a postpartum care experience for new parents and their newborn to improve women's postpartum care, health, and wellbeing in the U.S. An essential aim is to educate women in the U.S. about the importance of postpartum care. The paper discusses the importance and the unfulfilled niche market of postpartum care, and what factors need to be recognized and considered to create a meaningful service and experience with desired outcomes (e.g., reduce postpartum depression; enhance the joy of new parenthood); how the concept of postpartum care can be transformed from the hospital environment to a resort environment. The idea is to incorporate the natural surrounding resort environment to rejuvenate and create inspiration and joy for this niche market. Different cultural perspectives about postpartum care are also included. Practical implications suggest that postpartum care is considered non-invasive medical care; thus, designing postpartum care service and experience in a resort would hopefully allow more patients to view and accept the postpartum period as a critical period when they can utilize the time to recover, recharge, and sustain physical and mental health and wellbeing. Postpartum is a critical period setting the stage for long-term health and well-being for the mother and the child. This is an important research area that deserves more attention for both the hospitality industry and the healthcare industry. The collaborative work can be promising and vitalize both industries; hence, stimulate future research opportunities.

Although there are an unlimited availability of online health resources today for professional health education and training, these myriad of resources have complicated education for students, healthcare providers, employees, and patients— particularly older adults, and individuals with limited English language skills. Even highly educated individuals may find the information too complicated to understand, especially when they’re confronted with time limitations. Research has shown that the human brain can process images significantly faster than words. Also, visual images are more effective in simplifying complex subjects, allowing the retention of complex health information permanently in our memory, where they become indelibly etched. To manifest those facts, I’ve created state of the art and innovative training animations and infographics to help learners grasp complex concepts easily and to expand their cognitive capabilities by stimulating their imaginations. In my paper, I sharing unique techniques that I’ve adapted in delivering and transforming complicated scientific topics into simplified/entertaining material, and which has shown impressive outcomes in the past few years of implementation. Through graphics and animations, I demonstrate how powerful visual metaphors of health and medical illustrations can create strong motivation in people, allowing them to attain a healthy lifestyle at work and home.

Professionalization of Social Workers Identity: Usefulness of Bachelor and Master Degree Programs of Social Work in the Czech Republic for Critical Self-perception and Self-reflection as Means for Self-identification

Paper Presentation in a Themed Session
Daniel Štěpánek

This paper reviews the problems faced by current students of Bachelor and Master degree programs of Social Work. Above all, it focuses on the problems of students of distance (combined) studies, who, after practical experience, come into contact with theory and approaches that can—with their emphasis on critical thinking and uncovering problems associated with ways to deal with burnout syndrome—lead to alienation or deepen alienation from their profession or job position and its duties. A typical example is the conflict between personal and professional identity, recognizing boundaries and maintaining the autonomy and independence of both areas of life. The paper is based on quantitative research conducted in the years 2020-2023 at three universities in the Czech Republic. Within this survey, through questionnaires and focus groups of full-time and part-time students studying the program of Social Work, problems with identification with the field and profession, advantages and disadvantages of the content of accredited fields and their usefulness for solving everyday problems associated with the performance of social work are identified.
