Social Isolation and Traumatic Brain Injury: The Psychological Impacts of Social Isolation

Abstract

This paper will look at how TBI patients are impacted by a lack of social connections in the community. What impacts such as depression and anxiety have on this population and does it contribute to other risks such as drug use and alcoholism. How can health care providers best provide the supports to aid in preventing this from escalating? How might a better understanding of loneliness and social isolation better help health care professionals, parents, and policymakers provide better services to prevent such troubling issues from occurring with such a vulnerable population?
