Improving Inclusive Health through Transdisciplinary Care: Creative Experimentation with Barriers and Benefits to Working across Systems

Abstract

There is a wealth of evidence suggesting that social determinants of health predict wellness outcomes, yet patients and families, and health and social services providers are often siloed in their knowledge and approaches to care. Through a process-based experiment, this workshop invites attendees to consider the complex challenges of transdisciplinary care. Participants will complete a small group art directive, experimenting with change strategies through the use of a creative metaphor. The discussion will highlight individual and organizational dynamics across disciplinary systems, and reflection on personal, professional, and systems-levels strengths leveraged toward inclusive approaches to health and well-being. Implications for transdisciplinary care include enhancing acknowledgment of the relevance of systems of wellbeing and new, imaginative connections across complex systems.
