Health Promotion among Private Schools and Government Schools in India

Abstract

Promoting health through schools is a ‘life-course’ approach to promote healthy behaviour among children. Many of today’s and tomorrow’s leading causes of death, disease and disability can be significantly reduced by preventing behaviour that is initiated during youth, through health education, understanding and motivation; and fostered by social and political policies and conditions. The Objective of the study is to find out Health Promotion among students in Private and Government Schools in India. The Sample for the Study consists of 50 Boys Students Private Schools and 50 Boys Students of Government Schools in Hyderabad, Telangana State, India. The Study is done with Survey with the help of the Questionnaire which prepared with the Pilot Study among Students, Doctors and Health Experts. The Private Schools are conducting regular health check of the Students twice in a year or more and guiding the students regarding eating habits, physical activity, dental care, hygiene etc. Whereas the Government Schools are taking up the health check of the students once in a year and not taking more interest in promoting the health among Govt. Students. The Results of the study shows that Private schools are supporting the Childrens with schools based health clinics and conducting the Health Programmes in Schools whereas the Government schools are more dependent on the Governement programmes. It is concluded that Health promotion is very important among school childrens to leave healthy life. It is recommended that every school must school health clinic to promote health.
