Influenza in the Course of the Centuries until 2009 : Application of the Contagion Film to the Teaching of Science and Health

Abstract

Cinema can be considered as a tool of scientific dissemination and a strategy of non-formal teaching of science and health. This work aims to identify how scientific information and likelihood relationships with the historical facts of influenza flu throughout the centuries up to 2009 have been demonstrated in the film Contagion. The qualitative research was adopted with the comparative method of data collection and film analysis. The scenes with the main character demonstrate the circumstances in which the contamination of the H1N1 influenza virus was exposed during a trip to Hong Kong, taking the virus to the United States. It was concluded that the epidemic evidence of influenza Influenza began in China in the last two centuries.
