Health Practices of Students from a Colombian State University

Abstract

We analyze the associate factors of students’ healthy practices in a Colombian state University. Our methods include a Descriptive, correlational study. The participants included: 57,8% were women, the 84,9% were between 15 and 24 years old; the 90,6% declared do not belong to any ethnic group; Related to their place of origin 54,8% were not from Manizales; the 73,7% belong to the levels 2 and 3 of social stratum; Regarding practices the 48,8% never “Do exercise that helps with cardiac functioning,” the 75% never “Do exercise that helps them to be calm.” The 41,3% answered that often “Share with friends and family their free time.” The 42,5% of surveyed answered that often “During free time do recreational activities,” in the same way the 42,5% often “Dedicate part of free time to academic and labor task;” the 34,1 answered that often evades sun exposition. The 48,2% answered that always read and follow the instructions when is using some medicine and the 52% never take annual labs of triglycerides, cholesterol or glycemia. From women’s total the 35,9% sometimes do the breast self-exam and the 37,4% get an annual pap smear. The 29,7% of Men answered that sometimes they get a testicle exam. Statistically significant difference was found p<0,05 by gender, age, place of origin, socioeconomic stratum, regime of social security affiliation, people with whom they lived, and if he/she is currently employee. University students do not have the best healthy practices.
