Risk Factors of Diabetes and Its Association with Comorbidities in Latur District of Maharashtra

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a modern day epidemic, silently affecting in India. In the state of Maharashtra Latur district has getting in higher proportion of diabetics. According to DLHS 4 blood sugar level >140 mg/dl is around 14 percent in Latur. Hence, there is need to focus on the situation of diabetes. This study is basis on the qualitative method, to fulfill this study use indepth interview method. The data has collect from 12 diabetic patients of rural and urban part of Latur District and 4 indepth interview has taken from doctors, those from Government and private hospital. The findings of the study the risk factor of diabetes is the lack of awareness about symptoms of diabetes, high calories food, hybrids food, alcohol and tobacco consumption, as well as obesity, sedentary lifestyle, lack of physical activity and family history of diabetes were found to be significantly associated with diabetes. The study has reviled that the association of co-comorbidities with diabetics is high blood pressure, cataract, rheumatism, retinopathy, nephropathy, neuropathy, coronary diseases and teeth problem. Comorbidities with diabetes is higher in rural part as compare to urban part of Latur due to lack of awareness about diabetes management and symptoms of comorbidities.
