Accompanying Factors of Nocturnal Enuresis in Children Aged 5-15 Years

Abstract

Enuresis is one of the most common problems for child . Enuresis occurs along with behavioral and mental disorders. This study aimed to define the causes of the problem in order to prevent consequences or to teach appropriate approaches In this descriptive study, 100 children affected with enuresis who had referred to a pediatric hospital in Mashhad , were chosen through convenient sampling. After obtaining permission, they were asked to fill out a demographic questionnaire which was made valid by pediatricians. Parents` reaction to enuresis was assessed by means of VAS-the 10 gauge ruler-and divided into moderate, severe, and low. Later, data was analyzed. 50% of cases aged 7.23 . 59% were boy, 47% of participants were the first offspring of their family. the level of education mother of 50% of cases was under diploma, 53% lived in down town. 86% had anal itching. 42% of children with enuresis had bed wetting during night, and the rests each 3days. 54% family contest its sever impact over their life (9.7 based on VAS). The life of 83% of the children was influenced moderately to severely, 17% just a little though. Enuresis is related to age, rank of offspring in family, and low level of mother’s education. By diagnosis and recognition of related factors, specifically behavioral and psychological problems, controlling and having health appropriate policies, parental training, it can be prevented. Mother, or child depression and separation anxiety disorder were not assessed and need further evaluation.
