Biometric Screening of Employees

Abstract

Presenter conducted original research, using a novel data set of combined employee biometric screening results and claims data, to demonstrate a relationship between screening abnormalities and both actual and predicted future medical costs. A statistically significant relationship was found between elevated blood glucose and TC/HDL ratio and direct medical costs and predicted medical costs, using a predictive analytics software. Blood pressure was found to not have a relationship. Using this new definition of biometric screening informative value, presenter will discuss the importance of incorporating biometric screening into trends towards value based care. Author will propose that biometric screening combined with targeted care coordination can provide the earliest and most effective method for preventing chronic conditions and unnecessary health plan costs.
