Body Shape Concern among Women of Different Age Groups

Abstract

The ideal or preferred female body size and shape has varied over time and continues to vary among cultures. Thus, with reference to the background literature, it becomes apparent to understand the mind set of women in present time with regard to their body. Therefore, it was decided to assess and the body concern among women of different age groups. A total of 527 women of different age groups were selected for the purpose of the study. The women selected for the study were categorized under four age groups namely 25 to30 years, 31 to 35 years, 36 to 40 years and 41 to 45 years. Body Shape Questionnaire was employed to find out the body shape concern among different age groups of women. The data was analysed with the help of one way ANOVA. The level of significance was set at 0.5 levels. Examination of different Age groups means suggests that the average Body Concern was lowest among 41-45 years of age group and highest for the 25-30 years of age group. One way ANOVA revealed that there were significant differences in Body Concern between the four groups.
