Abstract
This paper considers the dialectics of of “attention” from three perspectives - policy, privacy, and persuasive technologies. The dialectics of “attention” suggests that to which we pay attention creates our environment. And, in turn, our environment shapes that to which we pay attention. This strain will be traced through existing policy, competing philosophies of privacy, and the growing reach of persuasive technologies.
