Factors Influencing Time and Cost Overruns in the Infrastructure Construction Projects : A Case Study in Cable Stayed Bridge

Abstract

Infrastructure projects plays a key role in the economic growth a country and significant contribution to the GDP. Infrastructure sector is responsible for the overall development of the country by creating the world class infrastructure which includes construction of bridges, dams, roads, power and so on. Time and cost overruns become the integral part of most of the major infrastructure construction projects. The main objective of this study is to identify the factors causing the time and cost overruns during the execution stage of the project and suggesting the improvements and mitigating measures by analysing the top factors influencing the time and cost overruns. MPCS (Management Planning and Control System ) is used right from tendering process stage till the execution of work. The factors influencing the time and cost overruns for a the Cable Stayed Bridge project are identified and ranked by conducting the questionnaire survey . After analysing critical factors various mitigation measures are also suggested.
