Abstract
Net zero carbon emissions from Oil & Gas sectors means that any emissions generated from operational activities are balanced by absorbing an equivalent amount from the atmosphere. Several countries and organization have introduced targets to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. These targets are included in the strategic Sustainable Development Scenario (SDS) and Oil and Gas sector shall prepare the business strategies to achieve it. In order to achieve this target, an organization needs to take into account multiple, diverse solutions hands in hand. The concept is to combine low carbon technology and decarbonisation that consists of: Understanding the actual carbon emitted at present as baseline data (business as usual) Low carbon technologies implementation such as 2.1. Energy efficiency (introducing lean six sigma, life cycle assessment, energy audit, and other tools necessary) 2.2 Renewables direct use 2.3. Re-electifications 2.4. Zero routine flaring Decarbonisation options such as: 3.1 Carbon capture and storage (technology) 3.2 Natural decarbonisations options such as reforestation, cover crop and aquaculture. Sustainability is diversity, there is no one solution to reach net zero carbon. 2050 is 30 years from now and it may seem long. But 30 years is not much for oil and gas sector. SMART business strategies need to be developed and executed now.
