Integration of the Environmental Design Culture in the Architectural Education

Abstract

Human beings have become the dominant force to influence the life cycle of nature by building cities for millions of people and connecting them by various infrastructural constructions such as roads, bridges, underground, railways, and airways. İncreasing environmental problems, rising carbon dioxide levels, and global temperature, an increasing amount of irreversible waste, polluted water, sea, and rivers are alarming for a new way of living in the Anthropocene epoch. Digital transformation of technology and production is the new challenge of this epoch surrounding our lives with computer and information technologies such as the internet, artificial intelligent, big data. These two overlapping conditions of the twenty-first century indicate to discuss a new way of living forms more inclusive, equal, and sustainable for the future. Architecture and urbanism should take more initiative to foresight a new lifestyle which cares the nature. Methods and content for the education of young architects, urban planners, and designers is an important step for establishing a new understanding of a built environment. This paper discusses the principles for a new education, which influence the young generations to design better living environments, compatible and integrated with nature.
