Human-nature-human Interactions in Embedded Nature : Parks of Tehran in Mornings Case Study

Abstract

The concept of lodged nature in an urban context has hitherto been investigated in various fields of study including urban design and planning, landscape design, ecological studies, sociology, cultural studies, and psychology. Parks, as one of the most important indicative examples of embedded nature, provide the opportunity of human-nature interactions in the current daily life of citizens and within the bounds of cities. In addition to the human-nature interactions, however, parks can create an arena of human-human communications in some specific contexts. In an Iranian-Tehranian context, for instance, parks – whether as designed landscapes or as virgin enclosed wilderness – perform as an interface between human beings and nature with the possibility of human-nature-human interactions. Communal morning exercises and the following collective breakfasts in particular day(s) of a week; and various gatherings such as groups of retired men and non-employed women in morning hours, best provide examples of the conscious and semi-conscious human-nature-human interactions in the implanted nature in Tehran. The poster aims to depict how the reciprocal human-nature and human-human interactions can complement each other in order to create a mutually supportive relationship throughout the morning hours in parks of Tehran. The methodology incorporates the direct observation, documentary photography, and the graphic analysis with Photoshop diagrams.
