The Impact of Legislation and the Relationship between Amman Architecture and the Social Life of Its Inhabitants on Each Other : Legislation and Social Life

Abstract

What do you do when you want to do something while the place encourages you to do something else? It is a problem of harmony. In Jordan, there is a lack of harmony between people’s lives and the places where they live. The legislation, as known, contributes greatly in shaping the architecture of the city. So, to find the causes of this problem, and to understand the relationship between legislation, architecture of the city, and their contribution in people’s lives, we look at architectural, legal, and sociological references. Hamza neighborhood in Marka was the selected area of our study. This study begins with a series of interviews with inhabitants of Hamzah neighborhood and a group of experts. It is then divided into three main headings: population density and public spaces, the enforcement of legislation, and vertical construction. It ends with an attempt to comprehensively understand the problem and offer solutions that begin with the foundations and end with suggestions for small details.
