Climate Action Against Climate Change: An Approach to the Challenges of a New Social Movement

Abstract

Without any doubt, climate change is the biggest problem modern democracies face. The political, social and environmental challenges caused by global warming are rapidly accelerating the ability of current democratic institutions to adapt to this phenomenon. There will not be any part of our lives affected by climate change, at least in some degree. From health to leisure and from work to social organization. To avoid the worst case scenario it will be necessary an immediate and sustained global mobilization without precedents in history. In other words, climate action needs to convince that instant and disruptive measures are unavoidable right away if we want to reach a fair decarbonization to all. This presentation will focus on how to reshape our personal and collective actions through sustainable models based on processes of democratization. Social participation will be inexorable if we are going to build politics to decarbonize society with enough public endorsement.
