Ergonomic Factors in Educational Spaces

Abstract

Ergonomics is the science that studies the relation of the human being and their working environment; it emphasizes various factors such as satisfaction, health, and well-being. In this sense, the aspects considered in this field of study are: lighting, acoustics, and anthropometry, which influence the physical and psychological performance of individuals and the development of activities. The purpose of this project is to establish the link between the infrastructure and the academic performance of students in the development of academic activities, taking into consideration the following three categories: lighting, furniture and acoustics. For this research, a mixed methodology is used applying exploratory, explanatory and descriptive elements. Direct observation and semi-structured questionnaires in a case study area used for the data collection. The methodology used consists of the following phases: a) bibliographical research, b) analysis of the spaces by direct observation and photographic record, c) survey design, d) survey application using non-probabilistic sampling by quotas, e) review of results and, f) proposal for improvement and recommendations. The obtained results will identify the aspects that affect the performance of the school activities, and the timely identification of risks students’ health.
