Building Collapse: Professional in the Building Industry

Abstract

Building collapse in Lagos State is a call for concern as it has resulted in loss of lives of both workers and even some residents of the building. Every building is expected to satisfy the functionality of safety and serviceability. This research thereby highlighted building collapse in Lagos State and the accompanied death. The objectives highlighting the factors responsible for building collapse and the factors that could ameliorate the incidence of building collapse in Lagos State. Both primary and secondary sources were used in generating data for the study. The primary source of questionnaires were distributed to the professionals in the building industry such as architects, builders, quantity surveyor, and structural engineers. Secondary source made use of journals and relevant literature. Inferential statistics revealed that professional quackery, use of substandard materials, and inadequate supervision are responsible for building collapse while government enforcement of standard. Professionalism in the industry are some of the factors that could ameliorate building collapse.
