Abstract
This study ascertains the real impact of road widening efforts by the Lagos State Government in Nigeria on the populace. By my professional calling and association as well as my being a lecturer for over forty years in all, I have an array of highly placed colleagues across both Federal and State Ministries of Transport who can be contacted for current data on issues concerning road widening and new construction or reconstruction of existing ones across Nigeria. This study being on a particular State in Nigeria would identify clearly the links between the problem at hand, government intervention and outcome and its impact on medium- and low-income earners. To government, the need to become more human and humane to all citizens affected through the development of a wider appeal to communities to be affected since available compensation likely to be offered by government may be inadequate. Finally, the study would identify strategies aimed at improving the society’s understanding of the role of government and the limitations of funding.
