Undergraduate Engineering Students Assist the National Guard in Its Energy Efforts

Abstract

Through the BIM/Energy Intern Program and the RU-Energy Audit Center, groups of students are given the opportunity to research and develop methods of energy and water conservation. The Energy Audit Center student teams conduct comprehensive energy and water assessments on NJARNG facilities annually. These energy audit teams propose techniques and solutions to reduce energy and water consumption, in addition to promoting clean and renewable energy. Another effort to reduce energy consumption is through outreach and education. This is accomplished through a quarterly sustainability newsletter and training workshops at NJARNG facilities. Clean Cut Quarterly includes information on a number of projects researched by other clinic groups such as solar hot water system design, Building Information Modeling (BIM), and energy audits. These undergraduate engineering student teams and their research help the NJARNG obtain its goal of reaching energy and water sustainability and security.
