Leadership Theories: A Theoretical Framework

Abstract

In the global competition era corporations are engaged in merging, acquiring the resources in order to sustain their growth and existence. Corporations are magnetizing the best human resources and developing their talent in order to retain the best human talent for its sustainability. Since human are considered as intangible assets that have a direct influence on corporate’ growth and that has drained the attention of corporate managers. Leadership is the practice of influencing the human assets to accomplish the corporate objectives by maintaining the capability, intelligence, integrity, and self-confidence of the human resources. Leaders envisage corporate goals, chalk out their strategies, and channelize the human resources to attain organizational development. The purpose of the current study is the theoretical deliberation on the leadership concept, theories and practices and their effectiveness in improvising organizational growth. Additionally, an assessment of the various leadership theories and their evolution is conducted through situational leadership, contingency theory, behaviorist theories, and trait theories, transactional and transformational leadership. Such theories portray the quality and behavior of successful leaders in regard to their followers. Despite several theories and volumes of research work, a little cumulative knowledge has been gained in this study. This paper concludes that corporate achievement can be gained through optimal appliance of the positive leadership styles and methods, because excellence leadership provides an enormous opportunity to refine management policies and practice.
