The Relationship between Athletes’ Grit, Mental Toughness, and Sport Resilience

Abstract

There have been several studies that were already conducted in relation to athletes’ grit, mental toughness, and sports resilience. On the other hand, such studies are still undocumented to athletes from the higher education sector in the Philippines. In this regard, this study determines the relationship between grit, mental toughness, and sports resilience among student-athletes in a selected state university. After surveying 385 student-athletes in a state university who are currently playing at their respective sports events, the study reveals that there is no significant relationship between athletes’ grit and mental toughness on sports resilience, making both null hypotheses accepted. Future research should examine the differences in mental toughness and athletes’ grit in terms of athletic status. Limitations and recommendations for further research endeavors are hereby presented.
