Playing Sports and the Health of Human Eyesight

Abstract

China has become one of the countries with the most myopia patients in the world and teenagers have the highest myopia rate in the world. Some Chinese scholars believe that ball games have positive effects on eyesight, especially table tennis. They also found that people who played ball games for a long time had better eyesight. This article uses data from the 2017 China Time Use Survey to analyze how sports influence persons’ eyesight. Based on China’s actual conditions, the subjects of the study were defined as teenagers from the age of 13 to 25 who were relatively valued by society and family. In terms of the number of people excluded from existing visual diseases, determine the factors that affect the vision of adolescents, such as time of exercise, type of exercise, parental inheritance, use of electronic tools, and time of homework. We also distinguish between men and women. The empirical research is carried out through multiple regression models. We hope to find that different kinds of sports have different effects on persons’ eyesight. In general, sports have positive effects on persons’ eyesight.
