Strategic Direction for Playing Sports Together: Building Networks and Relationships between Culturally Diverse Communities

Abstract

The project focuses on the strategic directions for playing sports together assist to combat racism and build networks between culturally diverse communities including community engagement practices to build relationships between Australian Aboriginal and multicultural communities. The success of multiculturalism in Australia owes much to the lived experience and challenge of Aboriginal and multicultural communities as a core component of Australian identity. It is therefore planning towards level playing field to see the level of important placed on cultural diversity and inclusion across the spectrum of sporting codes for a multicultural way of life. Academic and industry collaboration and sustainable partnerships, bringing together all levels of government, community and business will build cross-cultural understanding and social cohesion in culturally diverse communities, foster community engagement, promote multicultural harmony, and celebrate cultural diversity as an asset of Australia. In this regard, being a member of an organized sporting club or culturally-based sport association provides great opportunities for involvement in both Aboriginal and multicultural communities and social activities which can help to reduce discrimination and racism and foster social support networks and systems.
