Supporting Students for Overseas Academic Exchange: Online Learning Modules

Abstract

In response to the global higher education trend of internationalisation and an increasing number of CUHK students going on for overseas academic exchange programmes, the Independent Learning Centre (ILC) at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, in 2016, developed a series of online learning modules titled “International Across Cultures” (IAC) with an aim to enhance our outgoing students’ intercultural competence before departure so they can maximize their learning outcomes when interacting with people of different nationalities. Apart from discussing the quantitative and qualitative data collected via the online feedback forms through a pilot study conducted in 2017 on the IAC, this presentation will also show how the micro modules provided independent learning opportunities outside classroom both before and after students’ exchange experience in various contexts. Ideas about further expanding and extending the IAC to serve also the incoming international students will be shared in the presentation as well.
