e-Reading Habits among Senior Secondary Students at Aligarh Muslim University

Abstract

This study aims to find out the adoption of e-reading habits among the young students. Advances in the technology have brought a plethora of changes in our day to day life. Hardly, there is any aspects of human life where the influence of technology has not seen. However, this influence vary from country to country as well class to class. Moreover, we also see the adoption of the technology more among the younger students in comparison to the older people of the society. In the present study, the authors have tried to explore how far the advances in information and technology has been adopted with special reference to electronic reading habit by the senior secondary school students of Aligarh Muslim University in India. The investigators have chosen the survey method to collect the data for the present study. Questionnaires were distributed among senior secondary schools for girls and boys both. Questionnaire was distributed to 180 students from both category of students from 11th and 12th standards. Findings of the study suggest that student still prefer to read print books. Notably, students have come across many problems while using electronic resources. Some of these problems mentioned by the student are body ache, headache, and eye strain. This study revealed that electronic books are in no position to replace printed books. In general, the findings of this study should help the librarian as well as staff of computer department.
